Shrovetide in Frederiksberg




4A at Sofus Franck Skolen had a fine day beating the cat out the tub, as we in Denmark doe at Schrovetide.

    It seems there was carnival everywhere. And I am not a carnival person! Glad to see you also had great fun.

    If we started to beat a cat out of a tub in England the police would soon arrive and arrest us. I like this idea but would prefer a dog to a cat. They are bigger and so much easier to hit, ha ha ha

    Beating the cat of the barrel is an old Danish tradition.
    It's carnival and a favorite of all children.
    The child that strikes the bottom out of the barrel becomes queen. And the one who strikes the last stone of becomes the king.
